Truck Sun Visor, Part 2233288
– Drill Motor
– Putty Knife
– Tape Measure
– Phillips Screw Driver
– Nut Driver/Rachet
Very few of these external sun visor where ever produced. Rumor has it that this GM GMC truck sun visor is almost very simular to the Pontiac sun visor since they where both produced at the same plant. It is still a mistery as to exactly what year this visor was introduced. Since GM produced the Chevrolet sun visor, part number 986877, was not introduced until 1953. In 1954, the Chevrolet sun visor, part number 986936, changed to accommodate the one-piece windshield.
According to some accessory manuals, this GMC visor was available in 1951 but is still unknown as to the exact year. This illustration suggests otherwise, which was taken from an accessory manual. Since this truck has no vent windows & has pull-down door handles, which suggests that this visor may have been available in the late 40's.
To Assemble Visor
Figure 1 - Shows assembly complete
1. Top center trim should be protected for finish and placed studs up on bench.
2. Place right and left hand panels over studs and support them at points as shown.
3. Place center bracket over studs then SET the nuts.
4. Turn assembly right side up. It is VERY IMPORTANT NOW that the groove in the center of the TOP TRIM STRIP is aligned exactly straight. Now finish tightening down nuts & assembly is complete.
Loosen top two screws of windshield center plate inside of cab. Now use putty knife to relieve rubber from exterior center moulding. Be sure brackets jaws are set between chrome strip and rubber, NOT BETWEEN GLASS & RUBBER. Now install visor center bracket bolts and set firm, not tight. Then just set interior center plate screws firmly. To facilitate installation of center bracket see insert, Fig. 2. Slide visor up or down windshield center bar until height from extreme bottom of visor to bottom of windshield moulding is to the driver's preference.
Align center of visor with body center line & center line of windshield center moulding. Slip visor ends into drip mouldings (see figure 4). Adjust to height (figure 3) at points shown by arrows.
Locate & drill three 7/64" hole through drip moulding & visor as shown, and fasten securely with self-tapping screws furnished. Screws should be painted same color as drip moulding after installation is completed.
