GM Serial Number Decoder (Incomplete)

This page is incomplete...I hope to have it completed by the end of 2013. Most decoders that I've run across leave most big trucks & GMC owners out in the cold. I'm attempting to create a GM serial number decoder that will handle all 1947 through 1955 Chevrolet & GMC trucks, panel trucks, canopy express, suburbans, COE's, school buses, sedan delivery, forward control trucks...etc.

Don't expect speedy progress here as this is a large under-taking.

The input field below is just a placeholder. It does nothing...so don't bother trying to use it. You might have noticed their is no submit button for this reason. We'll work on beautifying/formatting this part later.

Serial Number:  H53L004455

Serial number is ok...a valid 10 digits long.

Special character checking not ready for prime time yet. We have a conflict problem between the first letter being a 53 - 55 truck series or a special character designation, such as a COE body or a diesel engine character. GM wasn't too smart using an inconsistant special character designation letter as the first and/or third character of the serial number (i.e. no first letter digit = conventional cab).

It makes lookups a real pain in the rear!

Let's spill the beans about what we know about this serial number so far.
